Our industrial PhD, Masters and professional development courses, are designed to train the next generation of engineers and researchers to support science and innovation around the world.
Managed by TWI Ltd, an industrial research specialist, NSIRC combines engineering-related research with academia and industry to develop a critical mass of research that meets the needs of industry.
In 2022, we launched our International programme, allowing us to bring our proven model for industry-focused academia to new NSIRC locations. Thanks to our new partnerships, we are now beginning to offer PhD Studentships in Greece, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and India.
We have received grants from key organisations, including Lloyd's Register Foundation, the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, HEFCE, and SIRF. Our collaborating partners include lead academic partner Brunel University London and more than 45 other affiliated universities in the UK, Europe, and Asia.

Our Vision and Mission
In 2012, our vision was to become the world-renowned centre of academic excellence in the field of structural integrity. Today, we aim to accelerate the translation of science into industrially relevant products and services, contribute to the development of effective standards and regulations, and become the research provider of choice for industry in the area of structural integrity and many other related topics.
We work alongside our founder sponsors, bp and the Lloyd's Register Foundation, to support research, innovation, and education that makes the world a safer place.
Postgraduate Programmes Based on the Needs of Industry
Our postgraduate programmes are designed to address the needs of industry for fundamental research. Through our collaborations with TWI Industrial Members, including some of the world's leading research and technology organisations, our students have access to research proposals directly from industry.
Our Masters modules and Doctoral Theses focus on fields of structural integrity, including risk-based inspection, engineering critical assessment, non-destructive testing, structural health, condition monitoring and ensure structures, and health management for use in industrial applications.
