Welding Coordinator Mohd Razzif Bin Mat Rasidi, born in Perak, leads the team of welder trainers at TWI Malaysia.
He was first exposed to welding while he was studying at technical college. After getting his diploma, he decided to continue his studies at the Centre for Instructor and Advanced Skill Training (CIAST) to become a welder trainer. His first job after completing his training at CIAST was a six month contract at Umai Sdn Bhd to do brazing. However, he soon managed to find a better opportunity at Akademi Binaan Malaysia (ABM) and started working as a welder trainer, instructing the students on the basics of welding.
In 2009, he was invited to join TWI as an assistant welding instructor and ever since his career has evolved tremendously. Over the years, he has broadened his skills and has gained various qualifications along the way. When he started his career with TWI, he was only teaching basic level welding, covering IG to 3G positions. He then upgraded himself to a higher level of welding skills, working with different materials including carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminium, copper and cast iron and in all different positions of welding from 1G to 6G.
He learned how to conduct WPS – Welding Procedure Specifications and WPQ – Welder Qualification Test and now his job scope is more involved with WQT procedures, aggregation, witnessing the mechanical tests and controlling the documents of the welding department for ISO standard audits.
Besides the welding skills, he has also tried to upgrade his knowledge in inspection by attending the CSWIP Visual Welding Inspector and CSWIP Welding Inspector courses. These qualifications have added to the depth of his knowledge of welding. He is planning to upgrade his certificate to CSWIP Senior Welding Inspector and also learn NDT methods like Radiographic Interpretation, Magnetic Particle Testing and Penetrant Testing to broaden his skillset.
Razzif finds it satisfying when he sees that his students have learnt a new skill that he has taught them. Although, it can sometimes be difficult to teach certain skills to some students, but he has learnt that he needs to be patient and use a different method or approach to convey the message to them. However, once the course is over and he sees that his students are performing very well, he gets motivated and excited about the next group that he is going to train.
