TWI and co-hosts Jiangsu Industrial Technology Research Institute (JITRI) recently welcomed more than 100 delegates to the TWI China Conference 2023: Advanced Manufacturing Technologies and Structural Integrity, held at JITRI’s headquarters in Nanjing on 8-9 November 2023.
Day 1 of the Conference opened its doors to representatives from the engineering community across China and South East Asia, who were invited to come along and learn about the latest technological advances and practical experiences, as well as discover the range of support TWI provides to companies and RTOs in the region. Key players in the engineering supply chain, including tiered, material and equipment suppliers, and original equipment manufacturers, from sectors including oil and gas, nuclear power, renewables, material production, automotive, medical and aerospace, took in presentations by TWI experts in their field. Topics ranged from welding automation and additive manufacturing, metal powders for advanced manufacturing technologies and manufacturing process simulations through to life prediction and extension in aged, offshore structures, and developments in friction based joining processes, as well as TWI services for certification, training and examinations.
Day 2 was exclusively for TWI Industrial Member companies and drilled down further into the the technologies presented the previous day, focusing on the specifics of how these can be applied in industry. Alongside insightful presentations, Industrial Members had the opportunity to discuss their particular research, development and innovation needs in relation to friction processes, numerical simulation, fatigue and structural integrity, coatings and corrosion resistance, additive manufacturing, arc welding and joining processes, and more via 1-2-1 technical sessions with some of TWI’s most experienced, senior technology leads. 1-2-1 meetings were also available on bespoke training options, how to optimise the value of a TWI Membership, both as a Professional Member individual and an Industrial Member company, and TWI programmes for collaboration and innovation.
Tat-Hean, TWI’s Director of Membership, Innovation and Global Operations, said “It was fantastic to see so many representatives from both Industrial Member and non-Member companies attend this inaugural TWI Conference in China – and the knowledge, experience and ideas exchanged between our attendees, associates from JITRI and TWI personnel – clearly demonstrated our collective commitment to advancing new technologies to the benefit of global industry. Adding, “I would like to thank everyone who participated for their contribution over the two days, particularly our co-hosts JITRI, and we look forward to delivering more prestigious events in China in the future.”
