Three experts from TWI Cambridge headed to a careers convention at a local school to promote the engineering profession.
Principal Project Leader Briony Holmes, Senior Project Leader Dorothy Winful and Team Manager Michael Dodge staffed a stand at the event at the Perse School in Cambridge on 15 February, where they were able to interact with students and inspiring them to consider careers in engineering.
It is an important part of the work of TWI to reach out to our local communities and inspire the next generation of engineers. This includes speaking about our own work and the roles of experts such as Briony, Dorothy and Michael at TWI.
Wendy Hodgkiss, the Perse School’s Head of Careers and Work Related Learning, echoed the importance of this work, explaining, “The ‘Careers Convention/Employer Fair’ is a really key one for us – the students are always so appreciative and ‘buzzing’ afterwards, having had the chance to find out more about the work that you do and also the work of your organisations/industries – which in turn helps them so much with those very important and difficult decisions about their future choices, whether those are A level choices or, for Year 12s, finalising their decisions regarding university courses and/or apprenticeships.”

Wendy added, “Thank you for sending your wonderful TWI staff to our Careers Convention, they were really great at engaging with the students, who all thoroughly enjoyed talking to them."
