Private Technology Innovation Partnerships (PTIPs) are operated by TWI on behalf of Industrial Member sponsors who have interests and ambitions in particular technological and/or industrial areas.  Close working between TWI, the sponsors and relevant supply chains enables the identification of priorities, and fosters collaboration to progress the commercialisation of innovative new technologies.  Through ideation, feasibility and trials, these lead to cost effective, industrially relevant and internationally compliant solutions, and ultimately, technology transfer.

Due to their technical expertise, industrial knowledge and access to supply chains, PTIPs are uniquely positioned to develop solutions that meet marketplace demand.  Keeping pace with the changing innovation landscape enables PTIPs to address long-term customer and industry needs, and supply chain competitiveness.  PTIPs utilise TWI’s state-of-the-art engineering laboratories and are supported by dedicated, TWI-based project managers and technical staff.

Non-metallic Innovation Centre

The Non-metallic Innovation Centre (NIC), a partnership between Saudi Aramco Technologies Company, Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and TWI, is an example of a current PTIP.  Based at TWI in Cambridge, the NIC operates as a multi-stakeholder centre, conducting research and development (R&D) that spans Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs) 1-9.  Partners are drawn from leading academic institutions, research centres and composite material manufacturers, and a Technical Advisory Board (TAB) meeting is held annually to gather advice and recommend actions for the development of research strategies.
